Dubai-based Dabbagh Architects has revealed its design for Al Ain Museum of Archaeology, located next to the 7,000-year-old Al Ain Oasis. Construction on the project is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of this year, with completion slated for Q4 of 2020. The museum’s site contains two historically significant structures: the mud-brick Sultan Fort built in 1910 by Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed — son of Sheikh Zayed the First — and Al Ain National Museum’s current structure, built as a part of HH Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan’s vision in 1971. Fusing the early build forms with a modern rework, the architects proposed a design consisting of a series of small closely-knit buildings across the ground floor. With a majority of the museum’s facilities located underground, the design would allow minimal impact to the surroundings, and maintain visual connection to the oasis.
This project is currently under tender stage.
