May US' Parsons International has been appointed as the project management consultant for the Dubai Sports City (DSC) development project. Enabling works of the project are scheduled to begin in mid-April 2004. The developers have also drawn up a list of potential architects to work on the project. They are Germany's Von Gerkan, Marg & Partner (GMP) Architects; Australia's The Cox Group, Palethorpe Architects; and France's Tallibert. The centrepiece of the development will be four stadiums, with a combined seating capacity of over 80,000 spectators, capable of hosting a mixture of sports ranging from track and field events to football and cricket. In addition to major spectator sports facilities, the development will include the construction of training academies; an 18-hole championship golf course; a dedicated sports free zone; and residential and hotel facilities. - 23th
May Local Al-Naboodah Contracting has been awarded the enabling package on this scheme. The six-month contract will cover the entire 50 million-square-foot site and includes the formation of access roads, construction of a lined lake and offices, and erection of a perimeter fence. - 23th
May German-based GMP Architects has been appointed to design a series of stadiums on this project. They will design a 10,000-seat multipurpose indoor arena, a 30,000-seat capacity cricket stadium, a 40,000-seat capacity multipurpose outdoor complex and a field hockey stadium, which will accommodate 10,000 spectators.
