Six Construct, a unit of Belgium's Besix Group, has been awarded the main contract on this project. The scope of work includes bridge works, pavement structure, signing and road marking, street lighting, traffic systems, storm water drainage system, and diversion and protection of the existing services. The Falcon Junction project involves the construction of two bridges along Al Khaleej Street which will link with Shindagha Bridge (Infinity) Northwards and is expected to ease traffic along the Al Khaleej and Al Mina Streets, provide entry/exit points for Rashid Port, and will also feature parking spaces under the new bridge. The first bridge extends 750metres northwards, and the second stretches 1,075 metres southwards. Each bridge will comprise of six lanes in each direction with a capacity of 12,000 vehicles per hour in each direction. The project includes the construction of a single-lane 250-metre bridge to turn right from Khaled bin Al Waleed Street to Al Khaleej Street which will have a capacity of 1,600 vehicles per hour. Also, a two-lane 500metre tunnel will allow left turns from Khaled bin Al Waleed Street to Al Mina Street and will be capable of handling 3,200 vehicles per hour. The project includes additional infrastructure work including the implementation of a surface signalised junction linking Al Khaleej with Al Ghubaiba and Khaled bin Al Waleed Streets and the construction of pavements, lighting, traffic systems, rainwater drainage network and irrigation systems. The Falcon Junction Improvement Project is part of Al Shindagha Roads Corridor Improvement Project undertaken over five phases extending 13km along the Sheikh Rashid, Al Mina, Al Khaleej and Cairo Streets. The Falcon Junction project is one of six contracts that will be awarded for Phase III of the project which is expected to be completed by 2022 and will include bridges that extend 8.5km, tunnels spanning 500m, and surface roads extending 8km.
